This is one of Alice's dresses from the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland, made for a friend's daughter. As you might have gathered, I don't usually make dresses or any form of wearable clothing. In fact, this would be the second dress I've ever made (the first was a god-awful green sack that I wore to my high school prom D: ). Due to my lack of experience with real people clothes, the final product came out a little...awkward. I really wish I could have done some justice to the movie dress, but it made for good practice at least. :/ I know the picture isn't the best quality, but I was dumb and didn't take very good pictures of it at my dorm.

I used a McCall skirt pattern and just pulled it up to her chest, then added the sash, flower, and straps (the real dress is strapless, but the girl was really, REALLY tiny, so straplessness was a bad idea). Skirt has two layers; bottom is cheap china silk, and the top is even cheaper chiffon. The sash was made completely from scratch, layer by layer, and the black material is from an old satin bed sheet. The lace seemed to have trouble staying up...not sure how to fix that next time other than using a smaller width. There's a zipper hiding under the flower and some elastic around that because I made it too small and had to alter it several times. :iconcryforeverplz:

But the kid wore it to Disneyworld anyway and even wanted to wear it to a school formal, which made my soul do little happy dances even as it was being brutalized by organic chemistry. :)

Finished it in October of 2010.
